Why I Created These Therapist Resources (And What I Wish I Had When I Started)

Writer: Karen FergusonKaren Ferguson

When I first started out as a therapist, I had the qualifications, the knowledge, and the passion—but I quickly realised that wasn’t enough. While training provided a strong foundation, there were so many aspects of being a therapist that I had to figure out on my own. From working with complex client cases to running a sustainable practice, there was a steep learning curve.

Back then, accessible, practical resources for therapists were limited. If I wanted worksheets, workshop materials, or structured tools, I either had to create them myself from scratch or rely on generic, low-quality materials that weren’t really suited to professional use. There was no guide for building a therapy practice that was both financially sustainable and ethically sound. Most of us were trained to work with clients, not run a business.

That’s why I created the resources I now offer to therapists. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to balance client work with business growth, CPD requirements, and the constant need for high-quality materials. My goal was simple: to give therapists the tools I wish I had when I started.

The Gaps in Training No One Talks About

Therapy training provides the technical knowledge needed to work with clients, but it rarely prepares practitioners for the realities of running a practice or dealing with the practical aspects of client work. Some of the biggest gaps I noticed included:

  • Business and marketing knowledge – Many therapists qualify with no real understanding of how to attract clients, set fees, or create a sustainable income without burning out.
  • Practical tools to use with clients – Worksheets, structured exercises, and workshop materials were hard to find, meaning therapists had to spend hours creating them from scratch.
  • Bridging the gap between training and real-world practice – Many newly qualified therapists still feel unprepared when working with real clients, especially in complex cases.
  • Ethical and professional boundaries – While ethics are taught in training, applying them in real-life situations can be challenging without clear guidance and examples.

I realised that many therapists were struggling with these same challenges, which is why I began creating resources that help bridge the gap between qualification and real-world practice.

Why Editable and Ready-to-Use Materials Matter

One of the biggest struggles therapists face is time. When you’re managing client sessions, admin work, and continued learning, there’s often little time left to create high-quality resources from scratch. Many therapists end up using generic self-help materials that aren’t truly tailored to their clients—or they avoid using structured tools altogether because they don’t have the time to develop them.

That’s why I decided to offer editable and ready-to-use materials that therapists could integrate into their work without starting from zero. These resources:

  • Save time – No need to spend hours designing workshops, worksheets, or client exercises from scratch.
  • Ensure professionalism – High-quality, structured materials help therapists maintain credibility and deliver more effective sessions.
  • Allow personalisation – Editable resources mean therapists can adapt materials to fit their own approach and client needs.
  • Support ethical practice – Well-structured materials ensure therapists stay within their professional boundaries and provide consistent, evidence-based support.

Having these tools available means therapists can focus more on their clients and less on time-consuming content creation.

Making Therapy Business Growth More Accessible

Another major reason I created these resources is that many therapists struggle financially. There’s a common misconception that being a therapist means you shouldn’t focus on business or income—but the reality is that if you can’t sustain your practice, you can’t continue helping people.

Many therapists were taught that success in the industry depends on seeing as many clients as possible. But this model leads to burnout and limits growth. That’s why I wanted to create tools that help therapists expand their income streams ethically, without compromising on client care.

Some of the ways I help therapists do this include:
  • Workshops and group programmes – Ready-to-use workshops allow therapists to reach more people without increasing 1:1 client hours.
  • Resellable therapist tools – Editable resources mean therapists can offer additional support to clients or even sell materials as part of their practice.
  • Therapy business guidance – Practical strategies for attracting clients, setting fees, and structuring a sustainable business model.

By making business growth more accessible, therapists can continue doing what they love without financial stress or exhaustion.

The Importance of Ethical, High-Quality Training and Resources

One of the biggest frustrations I’ve seen in the industry is the lack of quality control when it comes to training and resources. Some courses barely cover advanced techniques like hypnoanalysis, while others provide little to no guidance on real-world application. Many therapists leave their training feeling unprepared, and without access to the right support, they struggle to build confidence in their skills.

That’s why I prioritise ethically created, high-quality materials that genuinely support therapists. I don’t believe in quick-fix solutions or gimmicks. Every resource I create is designed to help therapists deliver better client outcomes while maintaining professionalism and ethical integrity.

What I Wish I Had When I Started

If I could go back to the start of my career, these are the things I wish I had access to:
  • Structured, professional client resources – To help guide sessions and provide practical tools for clients.
  • A clear roadmap for growing a therapy business – Without the trial-and-error approach that wastes time and energy.
  • Flexible ways to increase income without burnout – So I could have built a sustainable practice from the beginning.
  • A community of experienced therapists sharing real-world knowledge – To help navigate the challenges of working with clients and running a practice.

These are exactly the things I now create for therapists, so they don’t have to struggle through the same challenges alone.

I created these therapist resources because I know how hard it is to juggle client work, business growth, and professional development. My goal is to make life easier for therapists by providing high-quality, ethically created tools that allow them to focus on what they do best—helping clients.

By offering structured, ready-to-use materials and practical business strategies, I hope to support therapists in building sustainable, successful practices without the overwhelm. Whether it’s workshops, client worksheets, or business guidance, every resource I create is designed with real-world application in mind.

If you’re a therapist looking for tools that help you grow while maintaining ethical integrity, I invite you to explore the resources I’ve developed. Because when therapists thrive, their clients do too.
